Terms

 

 

  1. Modem – the black box at each end of a nonvoice data communications line.
  2. Acoustical Coupling – a way to send data without using an electrical connection. It use’s the same tones  a telephone uses in order to transmit data.
  3. KTS –  Key Telephone Systems are devices used in large companies for their telephone system. Instead of  one line coming into the building and everyone share, they put a  trunk line and run multiple calls. It also consist of
  4. PBX – Private Branch Exchange’s  are switching systems that allow calls to be placed either in a building or in a neighborhood.(In the old days) Now a days we use PAX’s  or CBX’s. (For computerized PBX’s)
  5. Stored Program Control (SPC) – Is a feature that stores information on each subscriber and gives a whole slew of features. It also has a great amount of reliability because it uses self monitoring system that alerts when there is a malfunction.
  6. Centrex CO/CW – This is where the use of an operator is limited to information only. All calls bypass the main operator unless specified by the caller.
  7. CAAR – Central Answer and Record – A version of voice mail if not known as voice mail. It allows messages to be taken when the recipient is not present. Later they can pick up the message by calling into the central office.
  8. Most Economical Route Selection (MERS) – This device choose the most economical route for the call to be switched to. Depending on where the call is going and what lines are available.
  9. MDR – Message Detail Recording – a devise used for management purposes. It records callers name, number, address,…etc.
