CHAPTER 1 TERMS

1. Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)- Terminal Equiptment that resides at the customers premisis.

2. Exchange- All subscribers that live in a well defined geographical area.

3. Exchange Service- Local telephone service.

4. Local Exchange Carrers(LECs)- RBOCs and ITCs provideing local service within there franchised area.

5. Interexchange Carriers(IXCs or ICs)- Long distance carriers such as AT&T, MCI, Sprint.

6. CPE- Customer Premisis Equiptment (see #1)

7. Transmission- Carrying the customers communications between the nodes.

8. Switch- Connecting CPE of a subscribers who wish to communicate.
